 Artists short films and video arts across Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and English suburbia at The Mews Project Space (behind the Whitechapel Gallery)

A programme of short films and video art curated by Hamja Ahsan and Gemma Sharpe, from 6-8pm including works by Fatima Hussain, Priya Sen, Janis Rafilidou, Sadia and Shaiza Ur-Rehman, Helen Grundy, Nina Magnalanayagam, Hamja Ahsan and the DRIK/Chobi Mela and Pad.ma archives. 

6-8pm: Short film programme
8-10pm: Screening, '36 Chowringhee Lane'

The programme has been formed based on an invitation from the Mews curators' to respond to the Whitechapel exhibition, 'Where Three Dreams Cross'. The aggregate nature of the Whitechapel show, and its free mixing of style and subject matter, has been reflected in this collection, drawn from the Other Asias archive.

Followed by a screening of Aparna Sen’s '36 Chowringhee Lane', (1981, 108min), set in post-independent India.

Archive material from the Other Asias ‘REDO Pakistan’ – a nomadic art project that has traveled across Lahore, Karachi and London – will be displayed, along with free limited edition copes of the REDO Pakistan newspaper.
